Program Overview

Counseling4Kids was developed around a “clinic without walls” model of service delivery in which therapists travel to the child’s home to provide therapy. We serve children throughout Los Angeles County, including in the San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita, Lancaster, East Los Angeles, South and South Central Los Angeles, South Bay and Long Beach.

We have three programs to meet the various mental health needs of children in foster care:

Prevention and Early Intervention (PEI): Our PEI Program utilizes evidence-based practices, research driven mental health treatment.

  • Our primary category of treatment is children who have been exposed to traumatic events. This includes those who have been physically or sexually abused, or have witnessed domestic or community violence and have specific symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or other trauma-related distress such as depression, anxiety, and behavioral problems. These children are treated with the treatment models Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) or Seeking Safety (SS).
  • Our secondary category is children with behavior problems that create disruption in family relationships, put placement at risk, increase risk of physical or emotional abuse from caregivers, or otherwise impair functioning in home, school and community. Depending on the age of the client and the needs of the family, we provide Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) or Triple P-Positive Parenting Program (PPP). These models emphasize the acquisition of effective parenting skills as well as the development of social competence and emotional regulation in the child.

General Outpatient: Children and youth who are not suited for treatment in the evidence-based models receive outpatient mental health services tailored to their specific needs in our General Outpatient Program.

Multidisciplinary Assessment Team (MAT): MAT is to ensure a comprehensive assessment of the mental health needs of children entering the foster care system.  The MAT Assessment provides timely referrals for troubled families, and facilitates the process of ensuring children a safe and secure home, either through reunification with parents or another permanent placement.
