Counseling4Kids Launches Newest Treatment Program
May 08, 2009

Counseling4Kids, a non-profit community mental health agency which serves children, celebrates the launch of its new Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) program. Friends of Counseling4Kids gathered for an Open House to learn more about PCIT, and to tour the Burbank facilities which include a newly designed therapeutic waiting room. The Burbank Chamber of Commerce facilitated a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the new, state of the art PCIT treatment room, which began serving clients in May. Board of Directors President Greg Less and Executive Director Holly Pedersen, Ph.D., MFT, (pictured cutting the ribbon) welcomed guests and shared the Counseling4Kids mission to serve children and heal families.
PCIT is a specialized treatment program designed for young children—ages 2 ½ to 7—with behavioral problems. PCIT therapists work with parents and children together to teach parents how to effectively reduce their child’s disruptive behaviors, including aggression, disobedience, defiance, and temper tantrums. Parents receive live coaching on parenting, communication and discipline skills while they interact with their children. While parents and children have “special play time,” a PCIT therapist is sitting behind a one-way mirror guiding the parent on what to say and do through an “ear bug” audio device. This live coaching and guidance teaches parents how to respond to their children’s behaviors in the moment.
PCIT is a proven treatment program that creates positive parent-child relationships while improving parenting skills. For more information about PCIT in Burbank, please call Counseling4Kids @ 818-441-7800.
